Beaches
Seagull Beach is located in West Yarmouth, south of Route 28. With the warm sparkling waters of Nantucket Sound and the long sandy stretch of beach, seagull is a family favorite. There is a large parking lot (with fee for parking in season), as well as snack bar and bathrooms (in season). Check with the front desk for discount tickets. There is also a shuttle bus during the summer season.
Directions: Take a left out of the parking lot onto Route 28. At the lights take a right onto South Sea Ave. (just after Molly’s). Seagull Beach entrance is approximately ½ mile on your left.
Smuggler’s Beach is a little further down the road in South Yarmouth.Smugglers has a kid’s playground as well as a beautiful beach.
Directions: Take a left out of the parking lot onto Route 28. Continue for approx. 1 mile. Take a right onto Seaview Ave, just after Christopher’s Restaurant. Continue to stop sign, take a left onto South Shore Drive, Smugglers beach is on your right. Public beach with parking fees.
Cape Cod National Seashore
A trip to the Cape is not complete without a visit to the beaches of the National Seashore. It is located in the outer Cape towns of Chatham, Orleans, Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown. The National Seashore was established in 1961 during the Kennedy administration. With its pristine beaches, huge sand dune cliffs and exciting surf, the Cape Cod National Seashore is well worth the drive.
Directions: Take Route 6 East, continue through the Orleans rotary. Follow signs for Cape Cod National Seashore.
Biking
Biking is a great activity for the whole family. Some of our favorites:
- Cape Cod Canal: located on the canal, level, wide paved road with no vehicles, approximately 7 miles.
- Cape Cod Rail Trail: starts in Dennis near Route 134 and continues through Harwich and Brewster.
- Province Lands Trail: a paved 5 mile loop through the dunes with great views of Provincetown and the Atlantic Ocean.
- Shining Sea Path: located in Falmouth, the path follows the former Penn Central Railroad line.
Kayaking

Whale Watching
Viewing a whale in open water is an awesome sight you will not forget. Cruises leave daily from Barnstable Harbor and Provincetown. Check at the front desk for coupons. You can also check out Hyannis Whale Watcher or the Dolphin Fleet.
Fishing
Catch a big fish story to bring home while on the Cape. Hy-Line Cruises offers fishing trips from the ocean street docks.
Harbor Cruises
There are several different cruises leaving the ocean street docks daily. Everything from a historic harbor tour of the Kennedy Compound to a family cruise where children sail free. Find out more at www.hy-linecruises.com.
Theatre
Every summer the Cape Cod Melody Tent offers a great lineup. Check out the Dennis Playhouse too!
Mini Golf
Yarmouth has a great variety of courses located on route 28. There’s Pirates Cove, a long time favorite, Bass River Sports world (that also has batting cages, a video arcade and a golf driving range) and Thunder Falls to name a few.
Shopping
There’s the old reliable, Cape Cod Mall, but don’t forget The Christmas Tree Shops and Route 6A for antiquing and art galleries like Mary McSweeney's Art Gallery filled with paintings of Irish landscapes and familiar scenes of Irish life.
Museums
If it’s not a beach day, you might like to visit the Cape’s various museums. Some of our favorites include:
- John F. Kennedy Museum: Photographs and exhibits of JFK and family.
- Sandwich Glass Museum: Exhibits of 19th century glass and demonstrations of the art of glass blowing.
- Cahoon Museum of American Art: Features folk art and marine paintings.
The Islands
Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard are a short ferry trip from the Cape. The Hy-Line ferry is located in Hyannis on the ocean street docks. Departing from Woods Hole, you could also take the Steamship Authority ferry.
Cape Cod Baseball League
See the future stars of major league baseball. There are dozens of major league players that have played on the Cape, including Boston’s own Jason Varitek. www.capecodbaseball.org
Barnstable County Fair
